Chamber welcomes new political culture The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce welcomed the emergence of a new political culture when it was reported that a delegation of the United National Party led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe met a delegation of the People's Alliance nominated by the President, to discuss matters of immediate national importance. The Chamber understands that the discussions were based on bringing an end to post-election violence and welcomes the holding of ongoing meetings at regular intervals, to identify and resolve matters of national concern, which include the peace process and the steps which will be taken to examine and effect necessary electoral reforms to strengthen democracy. "We are pleased that these initiatives are consistent with the Chamber's declared statement of the Need of the Hour which is "Political stability,a bi-partisan approach to develop Sri Lanka, a Government of National Unity and Reconciliation," the Chamber said in a statement. |
