Lanka Internet, a pioneer Internet Service Provider (ISP) launched Broadband Services which enable high-speed internet connectivity with secure private networks, corporate intranet solutions with point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connectivity and video conferencing.

Lanka Internet has entered into a business partnership arrangement with Alvarion of USA to obtain Broadband Wireless Access Technology. Alvarion is a global organisation with sales offices located in the United States, Europe, Asia and South America and is a premier provider of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) technology to telecom carriers, service providers and enterprises all over the world, General Manager (Operations) Lanka Internet, Janaka Wettasinghe said.

He said that the company had obtained an exclusive frequency band in 3.5 GHz range from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka to operate broadband services. This, he said, will ensure Sri Lankan corporates of high quality, interference free data communication solutions with guaranteed bandwidth.

The application of Broadband Technology will also enable faster web server connectivity and support customized web and e-business solutions designed and developed by Lanka Internet.

Accordingly Lanka Internet has re-launched Sri Lanka Web Server http://www.lanka.net/,http://www.lanka.net, the very first business portal in Sri Lanka, which has an access rate of over 6.0 million visitors per month creating high exposure for cost effective advertising. It has also launched an interactive web site - http://www.hiphop.lk/,http://www.hiphop.lk.

This web site is essentially geared to provide current information on local and international events and activities. One of the unique elements of this interactive web site, http://www.hiphop.lk/,http://www.hiphop.lk, is its ability to facilitate on-line promotional activities to support the sales promotional activities, which organizations carry out, Mr. Wettasinghe said.

The advertisers on this site would span the entire gamut, ranging from food outlets, tourist hotels and dress boutiques, to insurance companies, jewellery stores and the banking sector.
