Police investigating rocket attack on Thai office building BANGKOK, Dec 5 (AFP) - Thai police are investigating an anti-tank rocket attack on a Bangkok office building, police said Wednesday. Investigators said they found an M-72 anti-tank rocket launcher in a garbage bin at the car park entrance of the Manorom Building after an explosion at about 6:00 am (2300 GMT Tuesday) that smashed windows but caused little damage. Police said it was unlikely the rocket was aimed at the building, which houses an Israeli airline among other businesses, and may have been intended for a neighboring Tesco Lotus store. Thailand's Tesco Lotus chain of superstores has been the target of a deadly terror campaign since July. "From the initial investigation it may have been aimed at Lotus as a threat, and did not kill anybody as it was too early (in the morning)," Major General Jongrak Jutanont, deputy Metropolitan Police chief said. Jongrak added that investigators agreed that someone had fired the rocket launcher quickly, and that the rocket fell short, hitting the building's car park causing and minor damage to a concrete wall. |
