PSJSA to support PA

The Public Service July Strikers Association (PSJSA) has called upon all progressive forces including workers to defeat the UNP and ensure a PA victory at the forthcoming election to safeguard democratic and trade union rights and prevent another period of terror.

The Association in a pamphlet issued recently said workers have never forgotten the treatment it received in 1980 at the hands of the UNP which now requested a mandate to ensure a better living for the people. The very same UNP then suppressed workers most cruelly when they demanded a Rs. 10 increase in the daily wage to overcome the high cost of living.

The UNP not only expelled nearly 100,000 employees from their workplaces but employed thugs to attack striking employees resulting in the murder of comrade Somapala.

Workers got back their trade unions rights only after the PA assumed power in 1994. Therefore, all progressive forces should organise themselves to give the proper answer to the set of politicians who destabilised the PA government for money offered by racketeer businessmen by giving a clear mandate to the PA at the forthcoming election.
