Sabotage!

Editor, Daily News and the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. (ANCL) apologise to our readers for limiting yesterday's issue of the Daily News to 8 pages.

It was caused by threats and intimidation against employees in several departments and by other acts of sabotage conducted by a small group of members of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya (JSS) affiliated to the UNP, that launched an indefinite strike in a in a bid to prevent the publication of ANCL newspapers.

Once this intimidation and sabotage was brought under control, the larger numbers of employees produced the limited page newspaper.

This manifestly demonstrates the scant respect shown by the UNP to media freedom, freedom of expression, the people's right to be informed of and the right of journalists to carry on their work free of intimidation.
