Malimbada shooting: warrant issued on 8 suspect

When the case relating to the Malimbada shooting incident and the attempt on the life of Urban Development, Public Utilities, Housing and Sports Minister Mangala Samaraweera was called at the Matara Magistrate Court yesterday only one of the nine suspects who are UNP supporters appeared in Court. The Magistrate released the suspect on Rs. 50,000 cash bail and issued warrants for the arrest of the other 8 suspects. The Magistrate also noticed the three police officers involved in the incident and Minister Samaraweera to appear in court on December 3 when the case is called again.

Attorney-at-law Ananda Jayasekera appeared for the nine suspects. Attorneys M. M. Suhair P.C., Wijayadasa Rajapakse, A. W. Yusuf, Aelian Nanayakkara, Gamini Jayasinghe, E. A. Samarasinghe, Ananda Gunathillake Sripathi Suriyarachchi, Kapila Liyanagamage, Bandula Wellalage and Ranjith Meegaswatte appeared for the three police officers.
