UNF plot to suppress opponents

A United National Front plot to suppress its opponents by killing them in the event of its victory at the forthcoming elections has been uncovered by Intelligence Units, political sources said.

The plan to murder and suppress its opponents has been entrusted by the UNF to a group of dissidents who crossed over from the PA recently.

According to the proposed plan, all JVP activists are to be taken into custody under trumped up charges while all regional leaders who worked against the UNP are to murdered by creating unnecessary clashes with them. The plan also envisages the expulsion and harassment of Samurdhi officers who supported the PA and the suppression of JVP and SLFP Trade Union leaders attached to private institutions like Bata Shoe Company, Maliban and Munchee Biscuits Ltd. and state institutions such as Postal and Railway Departments and the CEB by proscribing their unions.

Sources alleged that S. B. Dissanayake's recent warning that the UNP is prepared to shoot anyone trying to stuff ballot boxes in a recent address to a group of lawyers had also clearly divulged this program of murder and oppression planned by the UNP.

The prediction of a possibility of a bloodbath in Sri Lanka on the eve of the General Election by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in letters hastily written to the Presidents of the USA and the European Union and the British Prime Minister recently may be an attempt to cover up this United National Front murder and oppression plan and blame it on others and this is reminiscent of the proverbial banana bunch jumping the fence before the robber, sources added.
