The Muslim Congress is approaching the ethnic issue in a new angle to bring about permanent peace in this country. We categorically state that the solution to the ethnic issue can be found only by having peace talks with the LTTE. We extended our support to the People's Alliance with the objective of ending the deadly ethnic war but the PA government did not act with sincerity in solving the ethnic issues. Therefore we decided to support the UNP with the idea of finding amicable and workable solutions to our national problems, said Moulavi B.A.S. Subair the first candidate of the Muslim Congress at the general election for the Jaffna district. He was speaking at a press conference held at the Muslim Congress office in Jaffna. Moulavi Subair further said that they hoped to find solution to the problems faced by the Jaffna Muslims now displaced and scattered in different parts of the island. The Muslims and Tamils have lived in amity for several years and we want both the communities to live in peace and harmony. The displaced Muslims are living in frustration as they have lost their lands and properties. Inspite of their sufferings they have not taken to violence, he said. |
