JVP has launched islandwide program to defeat Prabhakaran - Tylvin Silva

by Galewala Group Corrospondent

The JVP General Secretary, Tylvin Silva addressing an election propaganda meeting held at the Matale-Gongawela bus stand in the Matale Town, said that the LTTE had become helpless in the presence of the international community owing to recent developments.

The Tamil Alliance is aiming at strengthening the LTTE under a UNP Government led by Ranil Wickremesinghe. The JVP has launched an islandwide campaign to defeat Prabhakaran's Probation Programme to achieve his objectives by placing Ranil Wickremesinghe on the top of political power. The UNP leadership is perturbed seeing the mammoth people's power being built up as a result of the JVP campaign, and the UNP has launched a plan to assassinate JVP leaders. The JVP is not going to abandon its programme to protect the country and the nation."

The JVP Team Leader, Sujatha Alahakoon chaired the meeting.

The JVP General Secretary said: "Before letting the ink dry up that was put on the finger at the last General Election we have to go for another General Election. Nobody expected this election. Several very important measures, could not be implemented through the PA Administration during its first period of power. Under the probation program the net was spread to catch the bank-robbers. Has the UNP done this because of its sympathy for the people.

"The UNP is contesting the election with the money made available by business tycoons, in order to safeguard their interests. The same money was spent to buyover some of the PA Ministers and MPs. When the business tycoons were confronted with the problem of whether paying back the loans running into several hundred million or to spend one or two million for the UNP strategy they have opted to do the latter. Therefore it is a joke for the UNP to talk about the welfare of the people.

"The UNP leader is going around the country in a bus. Very big publicity has been given to this. Is this bus similar to the buses available to the commuters for their day to day travelling? The bus used by the UNP is an Ultra-modern luxurious bus with all the electronic and computer facilities. A businessman has given it to him.

"Look at the Election manifesto issued by the UNP. It has only four pages: one page is devoted to the picture of the UNP leader. Is this the way the UNP is going to develop the country? This document seems to have been prepared not to win the support of the people in a democratic manner. Its main objective is to deceive the people.

It is mentioned in this document that the North and East would be given to stop the war. There is no explanation in this manifesto as to whom the North and East will be handed over to. What is the nature of this set-up? Is it being given to the tigers? For what period of time? "There is no mention about the Judicial Commission. This is very dangerous. We do not need to mention about the PA. The promises mentioned in the 1994 PA manifesto have been repeated in the 2001 one. The PA has done something useful to the country only during the 35 days under the JVP-PA understanding.

"Only the JVP has a program to build the country. We have placed our program before the people. The country and the people could be saved from the plight they are in only under the JVP philosophy".

A PA team went to the UNP. PA Leaders go around the country telling about the corruption committed by those who left the Government. PA Leaders reveal as to how trees were felled and mansions were built and how quotas were sold. The question arises whether such people could remain in the PA at present also.

S.B. Dissanayake, who cut the mouths, assaulted, set houses on fire and cruelly handled UNP members has been included in the UNP national list. UNP members do not wish to vote for S.B. and to send him to Parliament. As a result a large number of UNP members in Hanguranketha have rallied-around the JVP now. Many UNP voters living in Matara and Devinuwara who cannot vote for Mahinda Wijesekera have come to the fold of the JVP. Some PA supporters disillusioned by the PA implementing UNP policies have also pledged their support to the JVP. The capitalist class is upset seeing the ever increasing might of the JVP."

Concluding his speech the JVP General Secretary appealed to the heroic people who have demonstrated their patriotism from time to time to vote for the JVP to rebuild the country and defeat the UNP, LTTE, unholy alliance.

Former JVP Parliamentarian, Anja Umma said: "The Muslim people in Kalmunai cannot get their grievances solved by Rauf Hakeem. The PA removed Hakeem because his demands could not be granted. The PA stood for UNP policies for the last seven years. Owing to this grave mistake the PA could not solve the burning problems of the people. Now the people have understood that they could not find the solutions to their problems in blue or in green.

Only the JVP has the answers to the country's problems. This election is very critical. If the UNP is mother the PA is the daughter. Mother and daughter both let the country down. Today the people have been mobilised for a red power. The people indicate very strongly to set-up a red government. Concluding her speech the former JVP MP appealed to the people of Matale to vote the JVP to power. Matale District Leader of the JVP team, Sujatha Alahakoon said that since the people were satisfied with the performances of the 10 JVP MPs elected at the October 2000 General Election, a large section of the Matale people have offered to help the JVP at the December 5th election.
