Violence in Hambantota should be condemned

by Ananda Kannangara , Raja Waidyasekara and M.R.M. Niyaz.

Creating unnecessary violence in the Hambantota area and causing physical injuries to the supporters of the UNP, their personal properties and also party offices by a section of PA supporters must be condemned by peace loving people at this juncture when the country is preparing for a General Election, Hambantota District UNP candidate Sajith Premadasa addressing a political meeting at Hambantota said on Sunday.

"I have lots of development plans to be carried out in the Hambantota District under a UNP Government after December 6. Among them a fully fledged housing program for fisher families and 11 large- scale industries and garment factories in collaboration with foreign investors will be set up in the district", he added.

Premadasa said that a special program has already been initiated to modernise the Hambantota harbour and it will create thousands of jobs for the youth in the area. A large profit obtained from the harbour will also be divided among the people.

He said "My late father, Mr. R. Premadasa had performed an unforgettable service for the people of Hambantota by constructing roads, setting up garment factories, constructing houses for middle class families, etc."
