If JVP is not returned in strength it will spell doom for country - Somawansa Amerasinghe

JVP Leader Somawansa Amerasinghe speaking at a JPV election rally at Nittambuwa on Tuesday evening emphasised that the JVP will never leave any scope for the separatist elements and the reactionary forces to divide the country.

He said that under a JVP government he will bring the present leadership of the UNP before the law for killing over 60,000 JVP youth during the terror period.

Amerasinghe who was addressing his third JVP election rally since his arrival in the country last week, said that he had returned to the country to teach a political lesson to the two capitalist forces of UNP and the PA.

Somawansa Amerasinghe explained that late leader Rohana Wijeweera had mooted a plan before his demise to seek power through the ballot and that his intention was to realise the long term dream of their party founder.

The JPV leader particularly referred to the fact that the UNP will be brought before the court of the people and all wrongdoers will be punished, while justice will be meted out under a JVP administration.

He stressed that the LTTE is posing the greatest threat to the unitary state of the country with their hand in glove work with the UNP.

He pointed out that if the people do not empower the JVP at the upcoming hustings with a sufficient number of MPs it will spell disaster to the nation. "If the people reject the voice of the JVP at the polls it will spell doom to the country.

"It is only the JVP that can steer this country to a fresh political order here. Today the JVP has a powerful base countrywide and no one can deny that fact. "And I as the leader of JVP reiterate that if the people give us the power to govern we will wipe out the LTTE terrorism, while giving the just desserts to the UNP and the PA", Amerasinghe said.

The JVP leader advised the people not to be deceived by the rumours spread by the UNP which is politically bankrupt to the core."

Somawansa Amerasinghe observed that during his 12 year exile in Europe he had learnt much about the Sri Lankan political arena and that he had arrived to establish a vibrant political culture.

He urged the people to cast a clear and strong vote in favour of the JVP if the country is to safeguard its territorial integrity and see more development where all segments of the population could derive the benefits.

He mentioned that no community will be discriminated under a JVP regime and the rights of the Tamil and Muslim people which were neglected hitherto, will be established.

Amerasinghe noted that the JVP is prepared to wash the blood of UNP and the PA, which has besmirched the society during 53 years since independence. The JVP leader was of the view that at no stage they will launch a third insurrection as said by the UNP media bandwagon and the clean slate maintained by his party since 1994 was clear proof for it.

Somawansa Amerasinghe also stated that he had returned to the country with the aim of being involved in the political mainstream here and that certain reports carried in the "Sunday Leader" newspaper of 25-11-2001 that he will decamp the JVP by Dec 3 was a blatant lie.

He specifically mentioned the point that he was not afraid of any political party or any politician for that matter and that his political future will be decided only by the JVP political committee.
