Animators permanent
Peace animators appointed in 1999 on a contractual basis to carry the message of peace and brotherhood to the people by subjecting the government's peace program to a constant dialogue have been granted job permanency and absorbed into the public service. This follows the approval of a cabinet memorandum submitted by Justice, Ethnic Affairs and National Integration Minister Batty Weerakoon, a Ministry release said. Addressing the peace animators at a meeting held at the Justice Ministry on Wednesday Minister Weerakoon stressed the importance of these peace animators playing the role of peace envoys by moving with the people as their representatives without considering them to be just another set of government servants. The Minister said peace animators should be capable of stabilising peace unity and confidence among the people. They should be prepared to serve in any part of the country among different communities. They should lay special emphasis on educating people of strife torn villages on peace and unity. |
