Royal College, Colombo on Tuesday released one of the most unique books published by the school to commemorate the 166 years of the existence of the college "The Royal Millennium Directory".

The book which was published by the Royal College Membership Development Committee (RCMDC) has 465 pages.

The traditional gold coloured Royal Crest is embossed on the hard blue cover of the book which contains nearly 180 colour photographs of the students of each class along with their class teachers.

At the launching ceremony held at Navarangahala, Principal H. L. B. Gomes said that history recorded that Royalists had made tremendous achievements not only in the field of education, but in sports as well as many other social activities.

"Royal College is unique in comparison with any other educational institution as it is probably the oldest school in the country, and also the largest school which currently provides education to a record number of over 7500 students".

"The publishing of this Millennium Directory is also a another milestone achieved by the past and present Royalists, since this could be the very first occasion a book of this nature was published by an educational institution in our country".

Mr. Gomes also thanked several distinguished old Royalists including the Chairman, RCMDC Nihal Seneviratna, former Secretary Royal College Union Nimal Dias Jayasinha, Upul Kulatunga, Nizan Nazeer and Nimal Karunaratne for their tireless efforts to publish this book.

Mr. Nihal Seneviratna said that the directory contains the details of sports activities of Royal and updated list of all the societies and Associations of the school. The results of all Royal -Thomian cricket matches played so far and the Royal- Trinity rugger matches as well as several other articals and photographs of interest are also included in this book which is sold at Rs. 1000 per volume.
