News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Election related incidents top 1,000 mark by Sarath Malalasekera The number of election related incidents and complaints rose to 1025 yesterday, the Police Election Seretariat said. Of these 522 were by the UNP, 348 by the PA, 56 by the JVP, 28 by the SLMC, 10 by the EPDP, Independent 15 and one by the Sihala Urumaya. Director of the Police Election Secretariat, Senior SP T. J. Miskin told the "Daily News" yesterday that 131 incidents were reported from Chilaw, 109 from Anuradhapura, 92 from Ampara, 55 from Tangalle, 47 from Gampaha and 46 from the Kurunegala Police areas. The Head of the PES has directed all officers in charge of Police stations to use road blocks in order to check vehicles carrying weapons during the nomination and election period. He also directed them to conduct mobile and foot patrols round-the- clock as a preventive measure. |
