Gampola was neglected for the past seven years - Lakshman Kiriella

by Rodney Martinesz

UNP candidate for the Kandy District Lakshman Kiriella told an election rally on Thursday that all the lawyers in his electorate Gampola had pledged their support to the UNP. He said that 95 per cent of the Kandy Bar too had thrown in their lot with the UNP which is a sure sign of victory for the party at the coming election.

He said the Gampola electorate had suffered neglect over the last seven years with the money set apart for development spent on wasteful projects. He would pledge to utilise all funds at his disposal as a parliamentarian for the welfare of the electorate.

He said they were compelled to leave the government duo to the lack of initiative on the part of President to fulfill the promises made in 1994. Their appeals to the President in this regard fell on deaf ears compelling them to quit.

He said persons who carried out mass scale crime in the Kandy District during last election received the most number of Cabinet portfolios. They who conducted a clean campaign were left out.
