'Rural youth cannot forget how UNP killed in thousands'

by Gampaha South Group Corrospondent

It was only Bandaranaike regimes which rendered a yeoman service for the well-being of the rural youth who were exploited by the pro-capitalist and imperialist elements, Western Provincial Councillor Prasanna Ranatunga said.

He was addressing a SLFP Youth meeting at Udugampola, Minuwangoda electorate recently.

Mr. Ranatunga said:

"The rural youth in the country cannot forget how the UNP destroyed the lives of thousands of rural youth during their 17 year rule.

But today they have came forward to seek the support of the rural youth. They should know that today's youth are more politically and socially advanced than some of their leaders."

Ranatunga said he was happy to note that the majority of youth have come forward to lead the PA election campaign. Though the Opposition is trying to mislead them they are aware that of the fruitful and meaningful schemes implemented by the PA under the able leadership of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to give them leadership training.

Ranatunga said the voters are wise enough not to support the UNP at the election.

Today the UNP talks about democracy and promises to build up a peaceful society.

They did not hesitate to curb the people's agitations using violence during their rule.

The people are not willing to go back to a dark era.
