Villagers and estate workers got their rights under UNP regimes -Ranil Wickremesinghe

by S. Duraisamy

Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP leader addressing an election rally held at Star Square, Bus Stand, Hatton told that during the UNP regimes in the past, both the villagers and the estate workers of Maskeliya- Nuwara Eliya electorate had received their legitimate and fundamental rights such as citizenship and other facilities.

"When I was Minister of Education, I developed all estate schools that were in very bad status. The houses of the estate workers have to be improved a lot."

He further stated that Hatton, Dickoya, Maskeliya and Nuwara Eliya towns will be made attractive centres for tourists under the Ministry of tourism.

Ranil Wickremesinghe, denied that there was any agreement between the UNP and the LTTE. He also said that when the election comes near, they might say that there is an agreement between him and Bin Laden of Afghanistan. So, all should be very careful and should not fall into the false propaganda of anti-UNPers, he said.

Regarding the North-East War, he told that political solution is the best solution and it will be solved in that way. Anyhow, the ethnic problem must be solved soon. Today the UNP consists of the Lanka Jathika Estate Worker's Union, the Ceylon Worker's Congress, the Up country People's Front, the All Ceylon National Worker's Congress and all of them back the United National Party. Therefore, it is sure to win at the election.

S. B. Dissanayake, former Minister of PA, told that the UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is only the most suitable and capable leader to rule Sri Lanka. President Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in an incapable leader, because she cannot solve problems of the general masses and the voters of the country.

She is never punctual. She never paid attention to our saying about various problems faced by the masses. She never kept her promises. As such today the masses are with the UNP and the UNF.

"Therefore, it is sure that the UNP is going to win 140 seats and become ruler of the country at the next general election.

"The government servants especially the Police and other ranks of forces do not have their promotions and they were not paid sufficiently too. Regarding Samurdhi affairs, she has well planned to tar me before the general public with false propaganda.

"All Ministry, Departmental officials and heads were allowed to plan and work. The President handles everything with not enough of experience. Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe is the only leader who could lead the country with his experience, education and links with other leading countries in the world. So, I ask all of you to vote to the UNP candidates and bring the UNP into power".
