Less attention had caused youth unrest - Titus Perera

by Ananda Kannangara

Non implementation of viable programs to provide necessary welfare measures for the benefit of youth in the country and less attention towards their day to day problems by the Government during the past several years has caused a severe unrest among the youth today, Colombo Municipal Council's Deputy Mayor U.L. Titus Perera said at a press briefing held at Opposition Leader's official residence in Colombo on Tuesday. The meeting was organised by the "Green Youth Power" movement.

He said that today's youth have inborn talents. Therefore it is the duty of the Government to create a better atmosphere to develop the talents of youth. It is high time the authorities draw a plan and implement new proposals for their welfare.

He said "todays youth have numerous social and economic problems. But it is saddening to note that the present Government has neglected the day to day problems of youth during the past several years.

At this juncture we welcome the promise made by the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe recently that he will take measures to scrutinise the problems of youth and grant financial assistance to fulfil their needs.

Dehiowita Pradeshiya Sabha Member Sextus Arsakularatna, Shakya Nanayakkara, Premasiri Hewawasam and Jayaman Wickramasinghe were also present.
