'Expansion of SA regional trade with special reference to Pakistan'

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has organised a seminar titled "The Expansion of South Asian Regional Trade with special reference to Pakistan" at the Ground Floor Auditorium of the Chamber on November 29 from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Due to the recent developments in the region for trade expansion Pakistan is emerging as a potential market for tea, spices and garments. The objective of the seminar is to discuss the proposed Sri Lanka-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement which will promote economic development through a continuous process of trade expansion between the two countries.

Unlike India which has a large domestic tea industry that competes with Sri Lanka in the International market, Pakistan is a tea consumer with the potential to be world's largest tea drinker.

The speakers at the seminar will be M.G. Hewage, Director General of Commerce Department of Commerce, Dr. Saman Kelegama, Executive Director - Institute of Policy Studies and Dr. Nihal Samarappuli, Executive Director-Board of Investment.

The panellists will consist of representatives from the Export Development Board, Sri Lanka Tea Board and Ministry of Trade, Industrial Development and Rural Industries and Institute of Policy Studies.
