SriLankan Airlines launches its own intranet website

SriLankan Airlines recently launched its very own intranet website, SriLankan Home.

The intranet enables staff to have information about the airline at their fingertips. It provides an online interface for corporate missions, goals, processes, relationships, standards, schedules, budgets and culture. It becomes the voice and combined intelligence of the organization.

All divisions and departments of SriLankan are represented in SriLankan Home. "The airline's intranet provides a communication infrastructure that permits our company to behave as a whole entity, a group and a family where everyone knows their roles and shares a common knowledge base," says SriLankan's Head of IT Nigel O'Shea.

SriLankan Home enables all airline staff to read corporate news releases, exchange information, publish commonly used document templates and access all websites hosted by SriLankan. Further, staff can apply for air tickets from their annual quota, file a request for servicing their computers, obtain statistical reports and exchanges from the intranet.

SriLankan Home was created entirely by staff at SriLankan's IT division. The Core Development Team consisted of Senior Software Engineer Susantha Fernando, Software, Engineers Chatura Walpitagama and Upul Abeysiriwardena led by IT Business Systems Manager Pandu Amarasekera. Network Engineers Priyanga Weeraratne and Gayanika Gunasekera provided additional technical support.

The Intranet Working Group consisted of IT Business Systems Managers Ruwan Amarasekera and Pandu Amarasekera, End User Computing Manager Champika Abeysirigoonawardena, Chief Engineer Gaya Bandara, headed by Manager IT Business Systems Chrishantha Silva.

SriLankan's Chief Financial & Administrative Officer Neeraj Kumar, Head of IT Nigel O'Shea and Head of Human Resources Sunil Dissanayake provided the fullest support and backing as members of the Intranet Steering Group.

The next challenge for the Core Development Team is to provide Sri Lankan's overseas offices access to SriLankan Home, on which work has already begun, a press release said.
