Samurdhi Development Officers yesterday staged a protest against increasing shootings and assaults on them by UNP supporters at the Police roundabout in Anuradhapura.

Members of the organisations of Lanka Samurdhi Govi Sevana Officers and Samurdhi Development Agricultural Research Assistants joined the protest.

The protesters alleged that UNP mobs assaulted Samurdhi animator Ajith Sooriyabandara and destroyed his house at Ingammaruwa in Talawa last week. In another incident, similar mob shot at President of the All Ceylon Samurdhi Development Officers Association Priyantha Rupasinghe in Potanagama in a bid to kill him.
