Election related incidents on the rise

The number of election related incidents reported from the first day after the nominations rose to 438 by November 7, The Police Election Secretariat yesterday said.

The complaints were recorded in the Anuradhapura, Chilaw, Kegalle, Gampola, Matale, Tangalle, Ampara, Negombo, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Colombo and Anamaduwa Police areas.

Of these 221 were by the UNP, 158 by the PA, 24 by the JVP, 11 by the SLMC and other parties including Independent groups made 24 complaints.

Director of the Police Election Secretariat Senior SP T.J. Miskin told the Daily News yesterday that several major incidents were reported in Chilaw, Kegalle, Anamaduwa and Gampaha Police areas.

The highest number of complaints received by the PES was 64 from Chilaw.
