UNF displeased over benefit package

Media spokesman for the UNF Prof. Peiris took exception to what he termed as "driblets being distributed here and there" by the cabinet almost as a bribe to trick the people into voting for the PA."

Though not opposing what he termed the meagre handouts he added that these were too little too late after seven years and should have been carried out under a co-ordinated program. Prof. Peiris and a UNF delegation was also expected to meet a diplomatic community last evening to appraise them of government moves to deny the free vote of the people through the abuse of the police, government property and the state media.

They would therefore meet with the Commissioner of Elections to prevail upon him to use his enhanced powers vested in him under the 17th Amendment.

Prof. Peiris also claimed that the Maha Nayaka Theras had rejected the charges framed against the UNP that it has an understanding with the LTTE.
