Disclose LTTE-UNP MoU to public- Amunugama

by Mahinda P. Liyanage

"UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, as the former Education and Higher Education Minister, under UNP rule, destroyed the entire system of education by way of submitting the White Paper Bill. Thousands and thousands of students were dragged to the streets in protest of that deleterious Bill. The people of this country well remember how Ranil proved himself to be an inefficient Minister or which very reason the then Parliamentary group demanded his removal from the same Cabinet portfolio", said the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Sarath Amunugama at a public rally in Galle.

"Such an unsuccessful politician who has such a disgraceful record for muddling the country's education system is at present ridiculously preaching the elements of good management and trying to teach us "what's good in management", Dr. Amunugama said.

During the past 7 years of PA rule the system of education of the country has made revolutionary changes for its betterment with priority to up lift vocational education," he added.

The minister said that all arrangements had been made to admit all qualified A/L students to the Universities within three months after the results of the examination were out for which purpose the UNP government took seventeen years.

Dr. Amunugama continued, "During the UNP regime, his uncle, the late President J. R. Jayawardena conferred Ranil with two vital Cabinet portfolios viz; the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. But in both capacities he failed to do anything for the benefit of the youth or of education. Such an unsuccessful person is now talking nonsense about good governance and management.

I also challenge him to disclose to the public the mysterious MoU signed by the UNP leadership with the LTTE and its allies"
