The Ministry of Health, Indigenous Medicine and Social Services is launching a program for providing Ambulances to every hospital in the island under the Development of Health Services Programme. Under this program the Government, during the last 3 years has provided 90 ambulances worth over Rs. 225 million and the Ministry is planning to supply a further 115 ambulances soon, either to replace the condemned ones or as new issues to government hospitals that have not so far received any, with special priority to rural hospitals. Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva disclosed these facts in the evening of November 07th on the occasion of receiving 4 ambulances to the Ministry, under the sponsorship of World Health Organization that contributes in large measures annually to uplift the health facilities of the masses. The 4 ambulances worth 10 million rupees will be allocated to the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital, Colombo, Base Hospital, Diyatalawa and District Hospital, Kahataruppa. WHO Resident Representative in Sri Lanka Dr. Kanthun and the Ministry Secretary Thilak Ranaviraja were present on the occasion.
