SYDNEY, Sunday (AFP) - Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar has passed Australian legend Don Bradman on the list of all-time run scorers in Test match cricket.

A single off the bowling of South African captain Shaun Pollock during the first day of the first Test at Bloemfontein on Saturday enabled Tendulkar to reach 6,997 runs, passing Bradman's mark of 6,996.

In his 85th Test match, Tendulkar then became the 21st player in the history of the game to reach the 7,000 milestone with a straight drive off Pollock to reach 84 not out.

Tendulkar, 28, is also the youngest player to reach 7,000 runs.

His next goal will be to pass Greg Chappell's 7,110 runs and move into the top 20 runscorers in the history of the game.

Tendulkar went on to make his 26th Test century with a knock of 155 as India finished the day on 372 for seven.

His 26th century put him joint fourth on the world all-time list with Australian captain Steve Waugh, behind fellow countryman Sunil Gavaskar (34), and Bradman (29) and Allan Border (27).
