Time to show Tamil strength - TELO

The newly formed four member Tamil Alliance says that the main purpose of the Alliance is to find solutions to the problems of the Tamil Community which were dragging for so many years.

We will seek local and international assistance to find permanent solutions to our problems, they said.

The main objectives of the Alliance are to get the economic sanctions imposed in unliberated areas removed, embargo on travel for Tamil People lifted, according to the TULF General Secretary R. Sampanthan. We will get the proscription on the LTTE removed somehow, he said in Trincomalee town recently.

"Time has come for the Tamils to take a clear decision now. We cannot allow any Government to drag the problems of Tamil Community any more. Countries like US, UK, India and other European countries have urged the Government to find a lasting solution to the problem," he said.

Without the wholehearted participation of the Liberation Tigers, no firm and lasting political solution can be found for the Tamil national question, he said. Political solution found in talks with Liberation Tigers can only be implemented under the supervision of the international community, he added .

TELO candidate Selvam Adecalanathan speaking at a rally in Kalmune said that the party is not intended to do bargaining politics. "If we want we could have done it when the PA Government lost its Parliamentary majority".

He said that both major parties have not been serious in finding a lasting solution to the ethnic problem. The Government is trying to use the EPDP to drag the problem further. "This is the time all Tamils should unitedly show their strength, he added.
