This election will decide whether North is to be given to Prabhakaran - Wimal Weerawansa

by Uditha Kumarasinghe

Popular singer Gunadasa Kapuge addressing the Borella JVP rally on Friday said genuine artistes can identify the pulses of the common man and never compel into a sycophants of political parties.

Kapuge said there are two kinds of artistes in Sri Lanka, one group is concerned about the betterment of the people at large and the other faction is to gain various undue advantages.

But the artistes who have a genuine sense on his class can never be bought by money. The capitalist system has no any other demon like an artiste.

He said that some artistes are ready to get onto the UNP platform if they were paid. But the genuine artistes will never betray their soul for money.

He said: "Several artistes extended support to the PA in 1994 by criticising the 17-year corrupt era of the UNP. The alternative we had was joining the PA in 1994 to protest against the 17 years curse of the UNP."

In that year a large number of artistes like Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, Wasantha Obeysekera, Lucien Bulathsinhala and I formed the 'Nidahas Kala Sandhanaya' to support the PA.

A group of UNP thugs entered the meeting premises. However, we formed the grouping and addressed the PA rallies countrywide.

"We are now with the genuine leadership who can guide the nation towards a proper direction. Politics is a pure game which should not be allowed to get spoilt."

He said that the JVP established a probationary government with the PA without seeking perks. The only intention of the JVP was to provide solutions to the burning problems of the country and go for a free and fair election.

JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa said the objective of his party was to go for an election next year under a caretaker Government. Ranil Wickremesinghe understood the fact that if the probationary concept was implemented for another year, the UNP would have not been able to grab power. As a result various conspiracies were masterminded in Parliament to topple the Government.

"The UNP sabotaged this probationary program to safeguard the racketeers who have obtained billions of money from the state banks."

Several chauvinistic forces of the PA have now joined the UNP. Even the parties like LSSP, CP, SLMC and CWC contributed to the PA to demolish the country.

Weerawansa said the JVP was able to tame the Government to a probationary program which had broken the promises of the people during its seven-year period.

"The JVP set an example as to how two parties should reach an MoU through this probationary program. In a country where fraudulent political tactics are in full swing, the JVP is the only political party which honestly proved something to the people."

Weerawansa said there are some group of racketeers who always jacked to the party in power to gain their undue advantages. Now, these racketeers are under the wings of Ranil Wickremesinghe. Some Tamil organisations which have turned themselves as the puppets of the LTTE are also in Ranil camp.

The UNP in association with Tamil alliance is making attempts to introduce a Federal system to Sri Lanka and hand over the North to Prabhakaran under an interim Government. "Therefore, the forthcoming election will decide whether the North is to be given to Parbhakaran or not.

He said at present the PA was lack of able candidates. Therefore, the PA which ruined the country has already been defeated. There is no need to defeat the PA any more. Ali-Koti-Nari unholy alliance of the UNP is trying to make use of this opportunity to come into power to meet the demands of the LTTE.

The JVP is the only political party which has actively engaged to defeat this unholy alliance. This nation can be rebuilt, if there is a proper leadership.
