Parents, wives and other relatives of the injured soldiers who queued up before the Army Headquarters to see their loved ones at the army hospital yesterday pleaded the UNP to give up all connections with the LTTE and urged them to stop playing with the lives of soldiers who are making the supreme sacrifice in the name of their motherland.

They expressed their displeasure over the UNP for joining hands with the LTTE and its `puppet alliance' of Tamil parties to contest the forthcoming General Election with the sole purpose of capturing power.

They said; "We sent our children to the war to defeat the LTTE terrorists. Not to get them killed in vain. Thousands of our children sacrificed their lives and many have become disabled." "If the UNP form a Government with the help of the LTTE what will happen to our children? Will the UNP give a guarantee on the lives of our children or will the UNP ask the soldiers to surrender to the LTTE like they asked 600 policemen in the East to surrender to the LTTE in early 90s?" they asked.

A. D. Siriyawathie (65) from Matara who had come to see her son said that she did not send her son to the war just to get him killed by terrorists.

" If the UNP form a Government with the help of the LTTE, parents will rally around the houses of UNP MPs. How can the UNP betray the blood of our children?" she asked. M. A. Perera (60) of Ratnapura said that his son is blind and lost both his hands when he tried to defuse a mine. K. Ratnayake mother of four children from Avissawella whose husband is blind and partially paralysed expressed her displeasure over the UNP's attempt to form a Government with the help of the LTTE.

If the UNP form a Government with the help of the LTTE that will record in Sri Lankan history as the biggest ever betrayal, she said.
