Patches VII Stitches and Crafts show - November 17 and 18 at J.R. Jayewardene Cultural Centre, Colombo An exhibition with novel and original creations of patchwork, Crafts, X'Mas Decor and "Home Beautiful" items, organised by Rachel Silva and her pupils for the 7th time will be held at J.R. Jayewardene Cultural Centre, near Town Hall. Rachel, a former teacher and diploma holder of Kathleen School of Dressmaking, has been one of Sri Lanka's leading promoters of Patchwork and Crafts - as a teacher since 1989 and thereafter by holding exhibitions and workshops. She has kept in touch with her friends abroad by her frequent visits overseas enabling her to gather various craft materials which will be evident at this show. Her two daughters Rowena and Niro her able assistants, are also specialised in creative crafts, which they learned in Australia. Rachel is also the author of the book "Patchwork made Easy" which is published in both English and sinhala languages. This year's show is concentrated mainly on craft items. On display will be - door stoppers, wooden serviette - box holders, kitchen towel hangers, table-mats, bottle jackets, wind chimes, fridge magnets, wall-hangings and a wide variety of X'mas items including decor, trees, ornaments, wreaths, candles and gifts. Also on sale will be patchwork, baby-items, toilet-roll holders, murals on velvet, soft toys, hand-painted sarees and an assortment of dainty novelty items, all at affordable prices. As in previous years part of the proceeds will be donated for charity. The exhibition will be opened at 10 am on Saturday November 17 2001, by the wife of US Ambassador , in Sri Lanka Regina Wills. |
