Choral concert

An expanded and well-trained choir will present a musical concert, which is sure to be remembered as a program that captured the imagination and won the hearts of many.

With songs culled from a period spanning over eight centuries, the program will also include contemporary vocal compositions.

The group will prove its skills and prowess to the utmost.

Added as a challenge the concert will have a selection of songs from seven languages; English, Italian, German, Spanish, Latin, Tamil and Sinhala. With musicians like South India's famous Illayarajah and Sri Lankan -Khemadasa tuning on with a wide range of techniques in the sphere of Western Music to enhance the quality and diversity of their compositions. Choro Bendicte's attempt at oriental languages will undoubtedly pave the way for greater fusion.

Trained by Francis D'Almeida who possesses wide experience in moulding singers and groups the `Choro' includes talented artistes like Bosco Fonseka, Denzil Perera, Nalaka Fernando, Placidus Gomez, Gladywn Ramanandan, Rowland Gamalathge, Santha and Sahanne Perera, Sathasivam Brothers, Krishan Rodrigo, Angelo Wijeratne, Melville Perera and several young old Bens.

This eighteen-member group will be accompanied by Ruwanthi Yatagama. Peter D'Almeida, a heart-throb of Sinhala teledrama audience, is also a versatile singer and dramatist, will direct and present the concert.

The program includes inter alia, the national anthem in harmony, Bridal Chorus, Anvil Chorus, Ashgrove, Tears In Heaven, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Love Changes Everything, Go-down Moses, Funiculi Funicula, Holy City, La Montanara, La Mannanita, Magnificat, Rex Admirabilis and Sunil Santha's (an Old Ben) Suhanda Rosa Mal Nela.

The choir prides itself as one specialised in Gregorian Chant and irrepressible polyphonic church music, sung Accapilla. It will be interesting to hear their interpretation of such rare musical treasures.

Without doubt November 9 and 10 (Friday and Saturday) are days to be well noted in Western Musical Calendar, when Choro Benedicte presents its second concert Harmonic Progression at the Russian Centre, Colombo starting at 7.30 pm on both days.
