'What's the UNP stand on a separate Muslim region?'

The United National Party (UNP) should reveal to the public their position on the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) demand for a separate Muslim region, the former JVP Member of Parliament for Gampaha District, Mrs.Anjan Umma, stated in a press release issued by the JVP.

Mrs. Umma has challenged the UNP to make their stand clear to the public as the SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem in a press conference held on Monday in Colombo had stated that he will discuss the demand for a separate Tamil region with the UNP. Is the UNP going to give the separate Muslim Region that the SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem had been continuing to demand from the People's Alliance (PA) government in the past or at least discuss this demand after the Parliamentary elections she queried in the press release.

As the UNP has made alliances with different groups it should explain to the people the basis on which these alliances had been made. It is very clear from the statements being made by the racist political parties that the UNP would do the opposite of what it is telling the people in the election campaign, the press release stated.

The Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people are living in amity in this country but the SLMC should be held responsible by the three communities for their attempt to change that position and drag the people of the country down to racist extremes. All political parties who have aligned themselves with the racist SLMC just to come to power should also be held responsible for this state of affairs, the press release adds.
