'New political culture a UNP dream' by Kahawa Special Corr. The people should be aware of the UNP tactics to win the upcoming general elections said Ratgama SLFP organiser and candidate Mohan P. de Silva. "UNP's claim to begin a new political culture is only a dream when considering their 17-year treacherous past. They are trying to drag the people into that dark history," he said addressing a rally in Akurala. The U.N.P. operated killer gangs under various names and there was none to rescue those oppressed masses, until Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga came to power" he said. The U.N.P. claimed thousands of public servants' jobs when they demanded a Rs. 10 salary-hike in 1981, the public servants must keep this in mind". "During their 17 years rule they never provided pipe-borne water for these areas, and water was provided only by the Chandrika government. People must remember this too. They gave the North-East rule to Prabakaran and it was President Kumaratunga who regained those areas into central administration after '94 he said. The UNP is in a secret pact with the LTTE and other Tamil political parties. They will surely give over the North-East rule to Prabhakaran lifting the ban and it will be the end of the territorial integrity of Sri Lanka" he pointed out. D.C. de Silva Vice President of Akurala SLFP branch also spoke. |
