'Whatever party will have to depend on JVP' by Ananda Pathiraja in Anuradhapura JVP Anuradhapura District Leader K.D. Lal Kantha told the Daily News that their party will build state power based on the people's mandate in the coming Parliament ary Elections. He said whatever the party - the UNP or the PA - will have to depend on the JVP's mandate in forming a Government following the parliamentary election. Therefore, these parties will have to form and maintain their Governments based on the policies and programs of the JVP, Lal Kantha added. One of the main issues of the JVP at this election is that Tamil separatism should be militarily defeated. We are of the view that the LTTE should give up their demand for Eelaam initially before any negotiation could be considered. Accordingly, we urge the UNP, the PA, the LTTE and all other Tamil parties plus all peace movements to reconsider their stance on the Tamil question. The UNP is hell bent on a negotiated settlement without demanding the LTTE to give up Eelaam. It is all out to enter into discussion with the LTTE and have entered into agreements with the terrorist movement in this regard. The UNP is also planning to lift the ban on the LTTE. There is an urgent need to implement the provisions of the 17th amendment to the Constitution as a priority issue. In this connection I should mention that the PA Government knowing very well that some of its members going to leave the Government never took steps to implement the conditions of the MoU. Our future plan is based on this MoU to introduce a socio economic set up based on democracy as a priority at the next Parliament, he added. |
