Pakistan tour - Cricket Board plays it by ear The interim committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board are playing it by ear whether to send the national team to Pakistan to play a series of one-day matches against an impending invasion of neighbouring Afghanistan by American forces. The CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board General Rana had contacted the BCCSL CEO Anura Tennekoon by telephone last week exploring the possibilities of Sri Lanka filling the void to some extent, after New Zealand cancelled a tour to Pakistan. However Tennekoon said he had not heard anything further from the PCB since. Cricket Board interim committee chairman Vijay Malalasekera said that they had not been fully informed by the PCB of a tour to Pakistan. "So far it has only been just that phone call. We have not got anything in writing officially", said Malalasekera. "We are closely monitoring the situation in Pakistan and have sought Foreign Ministry advice on this matter. We have to speak to the players and get their line of thinking as well before arriving at a final decision", said Malalasekera. The interim committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday (October 2). Tennekoon said if at all Sri Lanka decide to go to Pakistan it will be in mid-October. Sri Lanka are due to play in Sharjah in the latter part of October in a one-day triangular series with Pakistan and Zimbabwe. |
