A car worth over Rs 800,000 has been stolen from a businessman at Daham Mawatha Maharagama, at around 1.30 a.m. on Tuesday (Sep 24), during the power cut, Maharagama Police told the Daily News yesterday. According to the Police the businessman had gone to Kurunegala on Monday and having returned home had parked the vehicle in the garage but had forgotten to remove the car keys. On Tuesday Morning he had gone to the garage and was stunned to find the car missing. He had promptly lodged a complaint with the Maharagama Police. Police further said from the initial investigations carried so far it has been revealed that two men had carried out this robbery after unlocking the padlock of the main gate. Police are also conducting investigations as to how the suspects had managed to take the car out of the garage without arousing the suspicion of the inmates of the house. No suspects have yet been taken in for questioning and further investigations are being conducted by the Maharagama Police. Meanwhile Bambalapitiya Police are also conducting investigations to recover a van worth over Rs 600,000 stolen near the Bambalapitiya market at around 7.00 p.m. on the same day. Bambalapitiya Police said the van had belonged to a businessman of Galle and he had gone for a financial transaction to a nearby bank when the theft had taken place. No suspects had been arrested in this regard and further investigations are being conducted by the Bambalapitiya Police. |
