Women's VB team leaves for Bangkok By Sunil Abeywardena The Sri Lanka Senior Women's Volleyball team left early this morning for Bangkok to participate in the 11th Asian Women's VB Championships starting tomorrow at Nakhomatchasim 200 kms away from the city. Sri Lanka are in group 'A' along with hosts Thailand, Japan and Chinese Taipei. Group 'B' consists of China, Korea, Kazakastan, Australia and Vietnam. Sri Lanka is scheduled to meet Japan on Monday at 1.30 p.m. (Sri Lanka time 11.00 a.m.). The team is led by Mangalika Vasanthie Kumari and consists of eleven other players. S. A. Jayatissa coach of the Sri Lankan contingent speaking to the media said: "We have to face Japan in the first game which is a strong outfit. It is very difficult to overcome them. Our main aim is to score as much as possible against a team of this calibre. |
