Town Hall bomb blast: CID files further report by Sarath Malalasekera The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) conducting investigations into the Town Hall bomb blast filed a further report in connection with their investigations before the Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge, A. A. R. Heiyanthuduwa yesterday and said that the dossier of the investigation had been forwarded to the Attorney General. The CID is awaiting a reply to take steps against the suspects now detained under the PTA. The CID also had deployed a special team to find out the persons who had provided shelter to the LTTE woman suicide bomber the day prior to the incident. The CID told court that Thangewaran Regina Kumar had made a confession in connection with the blast. Sivanarayan Pushparani who is wanted in connection with the blast had escaped to the operational areas, the CID told court. Six other suspects who were taken into custody in connection with the bomb blast Ragupathy Sharwan Wasantha, Chandra Iyar Ragan, V. Varatha Raja alias Udaya, Sathavel Ilayswari, Jeyanath Lawrance and Sinniah Gunasekeran alias Gune had been detained until the completion of the investigation. The six suspects were remanded till October 5. Following the bomb blast 26 persons including Colombo DIG T.N. de Silva and four officers of the PSD died. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and ninety others were injured in the blast. Further hearing of the Magisterial inquiry was put off for October 5. The CID was directed to submit a further report on their investigations on the next date. |
