LTTE extorts tariff on flour sales

With reference to our news item appearing under the above title in page 1 of yesterday's issue, V.S.B Group informs us "there is no increase in flour price as appearing in the news item".

They also say that "the sale price of flour is fixed by Prima Ceylon Ltd. And not a single penny is added over that under any circumstances."

Editor's Note:

Though V.S.B. Group says there is no increase in flour prices in Jaffna, a paid advertisement in the Uthayan newspaper on September said that price of 450 gm. Bread will be increased to Rs. 12 due to increased flour prices.

Since V.S.B. Group is the sole agent for the Prima Ceylon Ltd. in Jaffna; they should have contradicted the reference to increased flour prices in the above advertisement.

Jaffna sources say that the price of flour in the open market in Jaffna ranges between Rs. 18 and Rs. 19.75 for a kilogramme.

The V.S.B. Group is also silent on the LTTE tariff.
