E-net to facilitate Urban Development The Urban Development Authority has found it urgently necessary to streamline the approval clearance process of development planning applications and has taken steps to introduce a computerize system based on Geographical Information System (GIS). In this connection an Urban e-net office was opened recently at the 27th floor of the World Trade Centre, mainly to cater to the needs of the investors who wish to be involved in Colombo development. "This is the first step in developing a complete on-line building application submission process applying IT solutions for planning, regulation and marketing of lands conforming to integrated urban development plans," a press release issued by the Thiraseva program said. "UDA shall develop this on-line system in stages. In the first stage planning related information shall be provided to developers or investors to facilitate them in site selection. When completed the system shall provide information on planning and building regulations, standard specifications, submission procedures and fees charged", the release added. |
