by Ananda Kannangara Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) yesterday announced that it would have to charter flights for the benefit of Sri Lankan migrant workers leaving or arriving in the island until the resumption of regular Gulf Air and Emirates Services. The current crisis has affected migrant workers taking up jobs or coming home on holiday. "We cannot let them down and we have taken up the matter at Ministerial level" Deputy General Manager (Foreign Relations) of the bureau L.K. Ruhunage told the Daily News yesterday. The Bureau is also seeking the cooperation of other airlines currently landing at Katunayaka. It is estimated that around 500 Lankan expatriate workers arrive everyday and around 250 leave for foreign employment. |
