NSB in major savings mobilisation project The National Savings Bank (NSB), the premier savings institution in the country will embark on a major savings mobilisation project with the declaration of the month of October as 'the savings month,' a bank official said. The declaration is to mark the World Thrift Day falls on October 31. "While promoting money savings, we would also encourage people to save our resources such as water, forests and animal species throughout the month," he said. Accordingly, the bank will launch a wide media capmaign in the first week of October. "Through the media campaign, we want to create an awareness on how savings could contribute to the growth of the economy and the benefits of saving our natural resources," he said. The bank will also introduce two new products to the market to mark this ocassion: a foreign remittance scheme and a co-branded credit card. The credit card will be operated and maintained in a joint effort by the NSB and Standard Chartered Bank (SCB). This willl be the first co-branded credit card in Sri Lanka, the official said. The card which will be valid internationally will have the Gold and Classic versions. It will be marketed first to NSB customers and others later.The two banks are also planning to add a host of benefits to card holders. Among the other prgrams lined up for the month include the opening of a savings shop in Moratumulla and revamping school banks. During a 'savings walk' to be held in several areas, some specified banking products will also be launched. |
