Electronic security for Dalada Maligawa by L. B. Wijayasiri in Kandy Electronic security equipment bought with funds allocated by the President's Fund are now being installed at the Dalada Maligawa, Kandy. A sum of Rs. 5 million was allocated for this purpose by the President. These new electronic security devices are being installed in place of the equipment destroyed by the LTTE bomb attack in 1998. This equipment is being installed under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police, Kandy, Asoka Ratnaweera. Diyawadana Nilame, Neranjan Wijeyaratne had been requesting the security authorities to provide this security equipment and get them installed before the commencement of the Tooth Relic exposition scheduled for September 22nd. Meanwhile, the Ceylon Electricity Board officials have assured that the necessary electricity supply would be provided without interruption during the period of the exposition. A few days ago DIG Kandy, Mahinda Balasuriya told a conference held at the Kandy Kachcheri that he would not be able to provide security to the millions of people expected to visit Kandy during the exposition, if the power cut continued to effect Kandy during that period too. |
