by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi Nurses at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital went on strike yesterday morning in protest against what they described as the boorish behaviour of the Hospital's Chief Matron. "The strike will continue until the Health authorities respond positively to the nurses' complaint," a spokesman of the Public Services United Nurses Union (PSUNU) told the Daily News yesterday. The spokesman alleged that this particular Matron does not act on the circulars issued by the Director General of Health Services." Nurses urge the health authorities to remove the Matron concerned from her post. The Acting Director of the Kurunegala Hospital said they were informed about the strike on the same morning itself." However, arrangements have been made to provide emergency healthcare to patients, he added. Meanwhile, discussions were being held between the PSUNU representatives and Health authorities with a view to reaching a settlement at the time of this paper going to press. |
