Acme tops Rs 50 m turnover

A leading flexible packaging manufacturer - Acme Printing and Packaging Limited has topped Rs. 50 million turnover in August, a company spokesman said.

The company recently relocated its production facilities in a new factory complex in Piliyandala with increased production capacity and has increased the turnover considerably over the last four years.

"Plans are now being drawn up to increase the business volumes further by increasing the client base and the markets locally and abroad.

The recently obtained ISO 9002 certification too has contributed to the business growth further improving the quality standards maintained by the company," he said. This is a noteworthy achievement under the present market conditions and the business climate in Sri Lanka and a clear indication of the company's commitment towards continuous growth and improvement, the spokesman added.

Established in 1949, under the James Finlay Group, Acme is today a listed company with a share capital of Rs. 88 million. With a total workforce of three-hundred people, Acme produces over 110 mt of flexible packaging material per month of various combinations of foil, films and paper.

Having started as a producer of tea chest linings to the tea industry, Acme has divested into all other areas of flexible packaging and today the company is equipped with capabilities of Rotogravure and Flexography printing, dry and wet bond laminating and catering to industries such as milk powder, biscuits, snack foods, confectionery, pharmaceuticals, tea and processed meat.

With the open market economy, product branding has become the most accepted strategy in business and product packaging plays a major role here. Flexible packaging seems to be the most economical and cost beneficial way of packaging that gives the marketer more choice and flexibility to change his presentation in facing competition under dynamic market conditions where changes can be brought about within the shortest possible time periods.Acme is geared to handle the demands and requirements of this nature, with its newly installed eight colour Schiavi Central Impression Flexography Printer, which is capable of producing very high precision, quality printing. Unlike earlier with rotogravure printing, where one had to wait for printing cylinders to be imported, any change to an existing print can be effected within two weeks to be effective in the market place within a very short time.

Acme Printing and Packaging Limited is an ISO 9002 certified company by Det Norske Veritas of Netherlands (DNV), under the accreditation of the Dutch Council for Accreditation (RvA).
