The Drought Relief Coordinating Committee set up by the private business sector, the international donor community including the United Nations Organisations and the international and national NGOs with representation from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Social Services and Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development is mobilising assistance from the private business sector, the international donor community, the international NGO community the national NGO community, the UN System and individual donors, and coordinating between the needs of the affected communities on the one side and the supply of assistance and relief from the above named sectors on the other, to facilitate the rational and effective matching of the supply of and demand for assistance and relief and thereby help maximise impact.

The Chairman and Convenor of the Committee is the Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The Coordinator of the Committee is Sunimal Fernando.
