Suspect remanded for murder of girl friend

Kelaniya group correspondent

A suspect wanted by the police in connection with the murder of his girl friend by stabbing her 17 times at Mahara, Galwala junction on June 23, 1987 while she was waiting for a bus to go to school was arrested by the Ragama police.

According to police investigations it was revealed that the girl friend had told him to 'stop this love affair' as she was still a student. Due to this request he was angry and stabbed her and evaded arrest from that day.

Later on he had married another girl from Kendaliyaddapaluwa, Ganemulla. When he was returning from his wife's residence the van he was travelling broke down at Lakmatha Road, Ragama.

On suspicion police arrested him and interrogated him when he confessed to the murder.

He was produced before Gampaha Chief Magistrate and was remanded.
