Forged notes suspects remanded till 19th

On a tip off a police party led by IP D. Gurusinghe waited in ambush for several hours and arrested a young man who is alleged to have attempted to sell Rs. 50, Rs. 100 and Rs. 500 counterfeit notes to a policeman in mufti.

The police party also searched the suspect and found him to be in possession of two Rs. 50, two Rs. 100 and one Rs. 500 counterfeit notes.

After questioning the suspect the police were able to arrest another young man who is alleged to have given the counterfeit notes to the suspect.

According to police the suspect is alleged to have agreed to supply Rs. 50, Rs. 100 and Rs. 500 counterfeit notes amounting to Rs. 2 lakhs to the policeman in mufti after collecting Rs. 1 lakh in genuine notes from him.

IP Gurusinghe was assisted by Sergeants D. M. Dissanayake, W. A. Ananda, K. G. Tillekeratne and H. M. Bandara of the Divisional Crime Detective Bureau Kandy.

Sergeant Dissanayake produced the suspects K. Chandra Kumar of Kurunegala and M. Rizmin of Weweldeniys with a 'B' report before the Kandy Magistrate D. L. M. Seneviratne who remanded them till September 19.
