Negombo FL lift Energizer trophy

Negombo Football League lifted the title for the first time with a comfortable 3-1 victory over the defending champions Colombo Football League in the final of the Eveready Junior Under-19 Inter League Football Championships played at the Maris Stella College grounds, Negombo on Sunday.

The championships was conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka and sponsored by Energizer Lanka Limited for the ninth consecutive year.

Negombo took the lead in the 27th minute when Nimal Fernando hit the net from close range. The winners maintained the 1-0 lead till the break.

The champions showing better teamwork and with their forwards in full command increased the lead to 3-0 with goals coming off the boots of A.M.P. Fernando and W. Sumedha.

The Colombo FL strikers despite being well supported from the midfield finished poorly. They missed a number of easy scoring chances. However during the closing stages Rameez Solomons scored a consolation goal.

The champions were presented Rs. 50,000 and the Eveready Challenge Trophy and the runner-up received Rs. 25,000 and a trophy.

Sunil de Alwis, Managing Director, Energizer Lanka Limited was the chief guest at the finals.
