Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, in a letter to Most. Ven. Weweldeniye Medhalankara Mahanayake Thera has expressed his deep regret over the incident in which the Thera was compelled to walk to the venue of a function at the Ranmuthugala Viharaya.

The Prime Minister's letter also said that inquiries regarding the incident had revealed that the driver of the vehicle in which the Mahanayake Thera had been travelling had refused to drive it up to the venue.
